I fell in love with English Paper Piecing a couple of years ago, and in particular with hexies. I started a number of projects (as I do.. ) but finished a few pincushions using little hexies in a variety of bright prints. They’re my favorite pincushions in my studio, and several have been gifted to new homes. Little Hexies PincushionWhen thinking about what I’d like to make for Swellegant Design, these pincushions topped the list. To me, they sum up everything this blog is about – small, pretty ways to make your everyday life happier. It may just happen that the colors also strongly influenced the branding I chose for my blog. What can I say?

Since I don’t really want to hand make products, this was perfect for a PDF pattern. This way, you can personalize everything about your pincushion. It is the perfect project to use up scraps or to showcase your favorite prints. You can embellish it with buttons and embroidery, or leave it sweet and simple. A bonus pattern for an optional emery strawberry is included. This pattern is suitable for those new to English Paper Piecing, a technique where small pieces of fabric are shaped around a paper template before being sewn together. It’s also perfect for fussy cutting design elements you love and want to see every day – like the little strawberry on my red and green version.Little Hexies PincushionThis pattern includes 1/2″ and 3/8″ hexagon paper piecing templates, pincushion top and bottom, and the optional emery strawberry. You also get a 16-page PDF of directions with clear illustrations and photos, glossary, and resources section.
