Springtime Studio Tour & Blog Hop

I am SO ready for spring. By March, I am always done with grey and rainy Pacific Northwest winters, and I long for sunshine and flowers. When Kippi and Lia suggested a springtime home & studio tour, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to brighten things up a bit!

Even if it’s still grey outside, I can add some happy blossoms and brighter colors indoors! These faux apple blossoms and pussy willow are perfect against the aqua walls of my studio. A little inspirational quote never hurt either!

In addition to a little decorating, I’ve been reviving old projects and finishing some new ones. These hexies will ultimately be a quilted throw for the studio sofa. Originally I picked out the grey, aqua, and yellow, which was pretty but… something just didn’t click for me, so I set it aside. Now that I think about it, it was probably too grey and cool for me!

I realized that I used many of the same fabrics in my hexie pincushion, which I absolutely adore and keep close to hand in my studio. (Pssst: I’m giving away copies of this pattern in the next post!) The only difference was the addition of pinks and greens, which of course I had in my stash. I really just need to admit that this pink-yellow-aqua-green-grey combo is one of my favorites and stop resisting it.

Now it’s a project I’m so excited to be working on again! These little hand sewing projects are great for car trips and TV watching, and bonus is that I light up ever time I see it in my studio.

Another amazingly springy project was the Windtorte I made for a friend’s birthday this month. It is a magical creation of two types of meringue, filled with whipped cream and berries, and garnished with fondant violets. Putting this on the table definitely felt like spring!

I’ve also been teaching a beginner hand embroidery class and working on the intermediate class to follow. (Come join us – it starts on April 1!)

I love teaching and seeing my students light up with joy and the new skills they are learning. These roses and greenery are part of the intermediate class curriculum, mixed with some of the basic stitches taught in the beginner class.

Getting lessons ready for my students made my fingers itch to make something too. After talking with Kippi, we realized it might be perfect for her daughter’s bedroom makeover. I’m thrilled to be sending this little piece of spring to Florida.

I’m not alone in my decorating efforts. I love this spring tablescape by Lia, using the aqua doily chargers I’ve been eyeing at Michael’s. I might have to cave and buy them after seeing this! Her entryway is pretty cute, too.

Kippi is also brightening things up with some cheerful spring colors of her own. I love the simplicity of her white pitchers for holding flowers (and perfect for every season!), as well as her many craft projects.

Are you ready for spring? What are you doing to brighten up your home or workspace? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.

  1. Everything is so lovely and ready for spring. The embroidery is stunning you are so talented! You message board is so pretty with the milk glass vase and flowers. Happy Spring!!!

  2. This all came out wonderful!! I have been resisting the message board too but after seeing this I’ll just cave & buy one! Everything looks wonderful & I am definitely feeling the spring vibes!

  3. I love those colors! They definitely feel spring-ish right now but they totally work all seasons. I think my favorite spring chore is cleaning house with everyone gone and music blasting. Followed closely by weeding to get ready to plant the garden beds 🙂
